What is it with boys and tools?

The first thing Mike said after we bought our house, while I was thinking about curtains and rugs and stenciling cabinets, was "We have a shed! Now I can buy some power tools!"

Andrew has declared the safe, harmless plastic tools as "baby toys" and has moved on to the real thing. And he is good with a screw driver. He raided Mike's tool box and the junk drawers and has amassed his own little collection of tools, nails, screws, and other interesting odds and ends. I drew the line at the hammer. Is it bad that my main concern was him putting it through a window and I worried not about the broken glass but the bugs that might crawl in at night?

He has been hard at work the past few weeks mastering the art of "Righty-tighty, Lefty-loosey!" He put nuts and bolts through a shoe box lid, and tupperware container, and his shirt button holes. He dissected a flashlight and a firetruck. He can tell you the dimensions in inches of any piece of furniture in the house. He changes out the batteries of his own toys. He replaced the screws in toys, measuring tapes, doorknobs, and just about anything he could get his hands on. The sizes don't always match but the new screws are "shiner and work better, because the others were too old."

We found this at Target for a dollar, so Mike was able to reclaim his own in case we have an emergency and Andrew isn't around to tell us where things are.

I am afraid my world may never be the same.
